Why Worry?
Beloved, We are hastily coming to the end of the second month of 2021. COVID-19 is still with us. And, because you are reading this email, we are still here together. Praise God! I would imagine all of us have been worried about one thing or another during this time in the bucket areas of our life - health, wealth and relationships. I know I have. And, in my worrying, I have found that, through the passage of time, my worrying only accomplished one thing. Instead of magnifying God, it magnified my problems, issues, and concerns. And, when the time of problem, issue, and concern had passed, it was God not my worrying that made all of the difference. So, why do we worry? We worry because we cannot do all that we would desire to do. We worry because things are not going the way that we want them to go and we cannot change them simply by desiring to do so. We worry because we think that we know how things should be and things are not that way. We worry because we do not know how things are going to turn out. Basically, we worry because we are not God. God can when we cannot. God changes things when we cannot. God knows how things should be and makes them that way when we cannot. God knows how things are going to turn out when we do not. So, what are we to do? Jesus said in Luke 12:25-26, "And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a things as that, why do you worry about the rest?" Have any of you been able to get that 25th hour out of the 24 hour day that God created? If not, Jesus is saying, stop worrying. If you can, then you are God and probably do not need to read this email anyway. If you are not God, and please do not develop a God complex, then when worry creeps in, escort it to the throne of grace and mercy where God, the real God, not you, can actually do something about what you are worrying about. God knows you. God cares about you. God loves you. God keeps you. God covers you. God protects you. God provides for you. When worry tries to overrule you, let worry know that you do not have everything together and you do not have everything under control. You do not; but, you are trusting that God does. I know. I know. More easily said than done. BUT, it will get easier when you start believing it and start doing it. So, why worry? Worry because you know you are insufficient. Stop worrying because you know that God is all-sufficient. Now, that is a winning game plan for life with God...and there is a winner with God in you.
