Heaven Is Your Home
Beloved,
If someone were to ask me where I am from, I might answer Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States of America, Planet Earth, Milky Way Galaxy. That is important but only to a point.
Where I am from, where you are from, is a starting point in life. Everyone started somewhere. Everyone is also going somewhere.
When I gave my life to Christ in the summer of 1990, at the age of 23, I had a new starting point in life. I also had a new destination in life. I was from Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States of America, Planet Earth, Milky Way Galaxy; but, and I thank God for this but in my life, I was now headed to heaven.
When I go from country to country, I take my passport which gives me the opportunity to enter into another country; but, my citizenship is still that of the United States of America.
If I were born in one country and granted residence in another, I would have the possibility of having dual citizenship, being able to travel and live freely in more than one place.
For Christians, we have dual citizenship. We have citizenship on this side of glory; but, we also have citizenship on the other side of glory.
In Philippians 3:20, the Apostle Paul put it this way, "But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ."
My brothers and sisters in Christ, what are you expecting from God and where is your faith leading you?
Too often, we can get so caught up in the here and now that we lose sight and perspective of the hereafter and the eternal.
Our citizenship on this side of glory is temporal. Our citizenship on the other side of glory is eternal.
And, for those who are followers of Christ, heaven is our home, promised to us by Jesus.
And, your passport to heaven was given to you by Jesus on the cross, stamped and sealed by the Holy Spirit, and your name preserved for eternity in the Lamb's book of life to be revealed in a time yet to come.
When will it come? When He comes back.
Expect Him to take you home because He said He would.
Until He comes back to take you to your heavenly home, I pray that you will continue to focus on the works of the church, His bride.
What are those works? We are to witness to the lost so that they too can get there heavenly passport for dual citizenship. And, we are to encourage the saved to not lose sight of who they are and whose they are so that their lives will be evidence of the salvation that they are supposed to have.
Tonight, at HOPE Wednesday, we, the church, will be gathering. Last week, some who have been with us chose not to be. I strongly and lovingly encourage you to make another choice. And, I hope and pray that you will not find yourself so busy focused on this temporal side of glory and the things that can distract you from the other side such that you will not be convicted to come and be with us. And, remember those who are lost and saved who need encouraging. Bring them with you.
And, remember, God loves you and I love you too!
Be blessed,
Rev. Cain
