Our God Is An Awesome God!
Beloved,
Sunday was a wonderful day for me as I was able to be back with my church family, Zion Memorial. The goodness of God in bringing me back has carried over into this week of Vacation Bible School.
Attendance has been strong. The Spirit has been high. And, the inspired teaching is being received in transformative learning.
For those who have been coming, keep on coming and bring someone with you.
For those who have not graced us with your presence, come and bring someone with you.
We have three more incredible nights in front of us to continue to receive more of God's revelation.
Speaking of God, is our God not awesome? Of course, God is awesome!
We can look at the creative order. The sun and the moon that hang in perfect balance in relationship with the earth. The atmosphere that separates us from outer space that could kill and crush us while we dwell in inner space for eons without truly knowing the beginning of time as well as the end except that Genesis tells us what was and Revelation tells us what will be.
We look at God's design on life. God created male. God created female. God made each perfect for the procreation and continuation of many of the species that populate the earth, including the human race.
We look at God's plan for our salvation and restoration to an eternity of love with Him. It was God who sent Jesus. We did not accept a friend request like on Facebook. We did not put in our profile on a dating site. God loved us before we even knew Him. And, He planned for how we could and would be with Him forever.
Is our God not awesome?
The prophet, Isaiah, put it this way in the well-known and often mentioned Isaiah 40:28-31,
"Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
While we strive to be our best selves, we will come up short in our own power.
We need God's power.
And, in his unselfish benevolence, He gives it generously, not to the selfish. No, the selfish often find themselves drained of power.
But, God has a way of restoring the selfless to continue to do good works that will glorify Him.
To those who truly seek Him, He will renew strength. He will lift up and exalt. He will give perseverance to press on. He will give guidance to the ends, means, and purposes He has in mind.
Does that not make our God awesome? Of course our God is awesome!
Our Vacation Bible School theme is "Follow The Leader". We are learning more about our awesome God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - who is the ultimate leader of leaders.
If our God is awesome and we are His children, then we should be awesome too.
Come together and continue striving to learn more about our awesome God. Follow His leadership and be the awesome leader that He has in mind for you.
God has given us a theme of leadership for this week and on Sunday, it will culminate with the sermon, "Do You Follow God?"
Come this week. Come on Saturday for the annual church cookout. And, come on Sunday. And...bring someone with you.
Zion Memorial is a growing church family with incredible people who are daring to strive to love each other as God would have us to. If you know somebody who needs that kind of love, that kind of fellowship, and that kind of relationship, take the lead as guided by God and invite them to come and be with you with your church family.
I look forward to seeing you this evening.
And, remember that God loves and I love you too!
Be blessed
Rev. Cain
